Mistrzostwa krajowe Wysp Brytyjskich w tym roku zostały przeprowadzone w Millfield School, Somerse w dniach 31.07.-12.08.2000. Obok mieszkańców Wysp startowali także zawodnicy ze Wspólnoty Brytyjskiej.
Tytuł mistrzowski przypadł Julianowi Hodgsonowi (ur. 1963), który zdobył 8,5 pkt. z 11 partii. Zwycięzca przegrał tylko jedną partię, z Jonathanem Speelmanem.
British Chess Championships The British Chess Championships took place Monday 31st July to Saturday 12th August 2000 at t. ELO favourite Julian Hodgson recovered from a 0.5/2 start to win the event by half a point from Chris Ward who was in clear second place. Jon Speelman, Mark Hebden, Murray Chandler and Danny Gormally were a further half point further back. The performance of the event was perhaps that of 13 year old Humpy Koneru who won the women's event with a score of 6.5/11. A small correction from last week, although Commonwealth players have been traditionally allowed to compete in the event (and this was the case this year) this was not the commonwealth championships which have already taken place.
