Garry Kasparov won the Hoogovens tournament in Wijk aan Zee half a point clear of Viswanathan Anand. Note that the Category of the event has now been recalculated after the corrected ratings have come out and the event was retrospectively Category 18.. The Hoogovens B event was won by Smbat Lputian. Gary Kasparov won the traditional blitz event on the first rest day with 10.5/14 ahead of Anand and Ivanchuk on 9.
